Isolation

The Isolation Centre is an internal exclusion room based within the school.

Pupils will spend time in the Isolation Centre if they have reached a C4 consequence due to repeated poor behaviour during a lesson.

Students on C4 are escorted to the Isolation Room by a Senior member of staff and spend the rest of the lesson working in silence. At the end of the lesson they are able to leave and continue with their next lesson.

Pupils who repeatedly incur a C4 referral will have their parents contacted by letter or phone and further sanctions will be imposed.

Expectations of students whilst in the Isolation Center

Internal Exclusion

Students will spend time in the Isolation Centre due to an incident which requires isolation away from the mainstream school day. This is normally in place of a formal fixed term exclusion. However, there will be occasions when the incident requires an external exclusion.

Students will only be placed in Internal Exclusion with the authorisation of the Headteacher or Associate Headteachers.

Students placed in Internal Exclusion will have their parents informed by letter and the exclusion will be recorded on their school record.

Only members of the Welfare may place pupils in Interal Isolation as part of their support programme for a student. In this case an Internal Referral slip will be completed by the Welfare Team member and given to the Associate Headteacher who will arrange the period of exclusion with the Centre Manager.

Students who have been placed in Internal Isolation will take their breaks and lunch under supervision in the Centre. They will also be escorted to the toilet if required.

Students returning from an external fixed term exclusion will undertake a period of reintegration in the Isolation Room before returning to main stream lessons.

Restart

Restart is a restorative centre for students and is an integral part of the support services offered to all students as part of the school's policy of Inclusion.

Restart seeks to rehabilitate students who have shown to have social, educational or personal needs which prevent them from accessing the mainstream curriculum.

Restart will use a wide variety of individualised approaches when working with a student referred to the Centre. These will include an initial Assessment, personalised counselling and mentoring, setting of targets or goals, self esteem raising as well as cognitive therapy.

Students referred to Restart will be closely monitored and reviewed during their period of time in Restart.

Students referred to Restart will complete a personalised programme of support before a managed reintegration to mainstream.

Restart will be available for the reintegration of pupils returning from a fixed period of exclusion or a lengthy period of absence from school.

It is important to note that Restart is not available for pupils who are failing to complete work in lessons. Neither should it be regarded as an alternative to the mainstream curriculum.

Students who are accepted into Restart will follow a personalised programme designed to meet their needs.
