Science

Information About the Department

Science is one of the largest and most successful departments in the school, with enthusiastic, experienced teachers, one full-time and one part-time laboratory technician. There are six laboratories.

The Science Department is an innovative and forward looking department which prides itself in the way in which current developments in Science Education are rapidly evaluated and assimilated into our working practices.

Year 7

Students follow a Balanced Science Course. Our approach is to use everyday situations in as stimulating and interesting a way as possible, in order to help students understand key scientific ideas. We regard year 7 as the first year of a five year Balanced Science Course, the first 2¼ years of which lead on to a range of courses at GCSE depending on ability and interest in the subject.

Homework

Science homework is designed to complement and to extend work done during lesson time. It is set as a meaningful exercise, to enhance the education of our students. In general, we normally set homework on a weekly basis in years 7 to 11.

Organisation

Science is taught in setted groups in years 8-11. The sets are based on the results of regular tests.
