What is School EXTRA?
School Extra consists of extra curricular activities which take place after school. If you see anything of interest go along and talk to the teacher involved.

What activities are there?
Year 10 & 11 Coursework catch-up with Mr Bennett and Miss Graham on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Miss Riley will be running coursework catch-up sessions for Years 10 & 11 after school on Mondays & Wednesdays for pupils to complete outstanding work and be proactive in using the facilities to make their projects.
Solar car racing in the Summer Term with Mr Winder on Wednesdays after school. Redesign the solar cars to race against each other. Design a team logo and prepare a portfolio of key features. Open to Years 7 & 8.
GCSE coursework enhancement with Mr Joshi on Wednesdays. Improve your coursework with the use of CAD CAM. KS4 pupils are invited to work on their coursework, catching up, improving and getting ahead on their Technology projects.
Year 10 & 11 GCSE coursework support/catch-up in textiles with Mrs Hinchliffe on Mondays and Wednesdays. Also Lower School Textiles Club the second half of each term. Miss Giblin is offering three food activities:
Essential revision for GCSE English exams both papers 1 and 2 and the Literature exam on Wednesdays from September to November and from March to May with Miss Sissons. Miss it and miss out. Also various reading and writing competitions throughout the year.
For those doing retakes Mrs Fletcher will be running Wednesday sessions from January to June. Revision and support for the GCSE English exam. Make sure you get the grade you need! Mrs Fletcher will revise all sections of the two papers and help with improving coursework grades if necessary. The sessions will respond to your particular needs.
Year 11 pupils are also invited to revise for the English GCSE this term with Mrs Thompson on Wednesdays after school, and join the Literature Club from January.
Year 7, 8 & 9 pupils who are interested in being journalists on the school magazine should go along to Mr Verity on alternate Mondays. Pupils will choose subjects/activities around the College to write about and interview pupils and teachers who are involved in these activities.
Year 11 pupils can practice the ALAN test in literacy at various times of the year with Mr Frost. This will allow you to increase the number of qualifications you can obtain.
Year 11 GCSE coursework catch up club between September and January with Mr Guest and Mrs Edmonds on Mondays. Year 11 catch up on coursework for your GCSE. Get help with queries and use ICT to complete work. Revision sessions for Year 10 & 11 GCSE exams in June start in February and will also be held on Mondays after school. Revision dates will also be set up for a revision morning in April and May holidays.
GCSE Coursework catch up for Years 10 & 11 between September and December and GCSE Revision for Year 11 from January to June, both after school on Mondays. The History Department offers assistance to those Year 10’s who need it with coursework. From January onwards revision for the GCSE History exam is offered. A two hour exam blitz is also offered after school the day before each exam.
Also there is a History and Media Club for Years 7-9 on Mondays after school with Miss Smithies which will examine History issues in the media, including film.
CiDa Coursework catch-up sessions with Mr Langford from Monday - Wednesday during the Autumn Term. CiDa units one and three are submitted at half term. This is an excellent opportunity for Year 11 Students to improve their grades.
Also DiDA/CiDA SPB workshops with Mr Gallagher on Mondays after school. Catch-up and support sessions for Year 10 and 11 DiDA/CiDA students who feel they are falling behind with coursework, or just want some one-to-one help.
Coursework catch-up sessions are available up to Christmas with Mrs Fry on Mondays. After Christmas Year 7 girls are invited to join her Computer Club for Girls on the same night of the week.
Coursework catch up for Unit One with Mr Hutchinson on Mondays to help / support those pupils who are finding the GCSE coursework difficult or would like to aim for a better grade.
Learning Support
Do your parents or adult friends want to improve their literacy skills? Then ask them to go along to Mrs Brougham on Wednesdays after school. Units of Sound/DILP/Study Skills – personalised programmes for anybody wanting to improve literacy/study skills.
Join Mrs Manchester’s English as an Additional Language and Raising Achievement study groups on Wednesdays and Thursdays during the Autumn term.
Learn about the world of finance and play the stock market with Mrs Valentine on Mondays after school between October and December. Open to Years 9-11.

In the weeks leading up to module tests in Years 10 & 11 for extra preparation join Miss Watt on Wednesdays.
After school revision sessions for year 10 maths modules 1, 2 and statistics exams with Mr Hankinson on Mondays. Also extra help with statistics controlled coursework.
Mr Winder will be running revision classes on Mondays for Lower School and Wednesdays for Upper School.
Media
A limited number of Year 9 pupils can join Mrs Hodgins on Wednesdays for the ‘Over to You’ Young Broadcast Journalist Club. Ever watched Christa and Harry and thought that you could do their job? Know your headline sequence from your anchor? Join this club and collaborate with your friends on the local news story of your choice. Win the regional competition and you could be working alongside ITV broadcast journalists and a production team making your story!
Miscellaneous
Want to become a radio amateur? Come along to Dr Jones’ Amateur radio Club and find out about this fascinating hobby. Learn to tune radios, intercept messages from around the world, talk to people from other countries and even learn Morse code.
If you are in Year 9 and want to gain an extra GCSE with the Prince's Trust with no exam to sit then go along to Mrs Ratcliffe on Mondays where you will produce a portfolio showing evidence of problem solving, working with others, improving your learning, community work and enterprise.
Interested in gardening? See Mr Irving and help plant and look after the hanging baskets and displays around school. Also revision for his Year 11 class after school on Mondays leading up to the exams.
Join Linda Crayton in the conference room on a Wednesday lunchtime if you have caring responsibilities for a relative. This group meet with an organisation called IYCE. They discuss how the school and outside agencies can be supportive to pupils who have caring responsibilities for a family member.
Beginners Spanish for all years groups on Mondays from September to November with Mr Smith. Learn a little Spanish by following the award-winning BBC on-line course ‘Mi vida loca’.
A beginners conversation class in German for all with Mr Baxter and Mr Taylor on Wednesdays. Learn how to hold simple conversations - could possibly lead to a qualification if appropriate.
For a basic course in Italian for holidays etc join Mrs Simoni on Wednesdays in November and December.
Interested in the Talent Show, Rock Challenge, Rock School, Sax Ensemble and other PA Clubs then look out for the separate Performing Arts Flyer.
Please ask for the separate flyer for all sporting activities and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
Revision / catch up / problem solving sessions in Science with Mr Adams on Mondays after school for Years 9-11. Problem solving with aspects of science, revision techniques and general help with science.
If you need support with your Applied Science coursework or you want to prepare for the exam, help is available at the Applied Science Workshop: Coursework support (Sept/Oct and Jan to March) and Revision Classes (Nov/Dec and April/May) with Mrs Eades on Mondays.
Catch-up sessions for all Mr Qadri’s pupils on Wednesdays.
For activities to improve your Year 9-11 chemistry that are not available in class join Mr Plenty on Mondays in the three weeks leading up to each module test.
Lower School pupils are invited to join Mrs Fuller on Wednesdays for Science Club.
