Modern Languages

Aims

To develop pupils’ ability to use a foreign language effectively for practical communication. To develop an understanding of, and to encourage positive attitudes towards countries where a foreign language is spoken, and to speakers of the language.

To provide the foundations for further study of the foreign language and/or other languages at a later stage.

To broaden the pupils’ cultural horizons and therefore contribute to their general education.

Year 7

Pupils study French on entry to Year 7. The language is taught using exciting, up to date teaching methods and courses which encourage pupils to communicate in the foreign language as much as possible. Pupils are assessed regularly in order to monitor their progress through the National Curriculum Levels of Attainment. Classes in Year 7 are arranged in mixed ability groups. Various materials and activities are used so that all levels of ability are catered for, and so that each child is able to make progress at his/her own pace. Homework is set on a regular basis, in line with the School Homework Policy.
