What is School EXTRA?
School Extra consists of extra curricular activities which take place after school. If you see anything of interest go along and talk to the teacher involved.
What activities are there?
Year 10 & 11 Coursework catch-up, improvement and exam preperation with Mr Bennett and Miss Graham every weekday lunchtime and Thursdays after school.
Miss Riley will be running coursework catch-up sessions for Years 10 & 11 after school on Wednesdays for pupils to complete outstanding work and be proactive in using the facilities for Product Design and Resistant Materials.
If you are i Years 7, 8 or 9 then the silver jewellery club will be running on Wednesdays after school until Christmas. Where you will make a silver ring using the brazing hearth. There will be a cost involved in this activity to purchase the silver.
GCSE coursework enhancement with Mr Joshi for Years 10 & 11 on Wednesdays. Improve your knowledge and understanding with the use of CAD CAM.
Electronics Club will be running on a Wednesday for Years 7,8 & 9 up to Christmas. Various projects will be available including making bike lights, alarm systems and hand held games.
Join Mrs Hinchliffe on a Wednesday after school for Passion for Fashion Club. This will run from October to Christmas. You supply the fabric and design your own creation totally from scratch. Also if you are in Year 10 or Year 11 revision/catch up/exam improvements sessions these will also be running on a Wdnesday
Miss Giblin is offering three food activities:
- Revision – KS4 pupils are invited to work on their coursework, catching up, improving and getting ahead on their Technology projects. Both theory and practical work can be done each evening starting in September.
- Competition – Students and staff will be competeing against each other for the coveted title of ETC chef of the year. Young and old Chefs will have the opportunity to create a meal or dish that tantalizes our judges’ taste buds. These will run throughout the year on a Wednesday. See Miss Giblin for more information.
- Cooking Club – In Summer students, mums and dads are invited to come in to learn how to make a dish that can be served for your family that evening!
Be part of the Shakespeare Schools Festival. Rehearsals will be taking place during September and October with Mrs Thompson and Mrs Kikezos. Join them on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday to rehearse a 30 minute version of Macbeath. Lots of parts still available.
Year 11 pupils can practice the ALAN test in literacy at various times of the year with Mr Frost. This will allow you to increase the number of qualifications you can obtain.
Study support will be offered during the run up to examinations by the Department. See individual teachers for days and times.
Year 11 controlled assessment guidance/queries and homework sessions on Mondays with Mrs Edmonds. You will also be able to finalise methods and techniques before your controlled assessment time in lessons. There will also be the opportunity to get help with queries and use ICT to complete work. Revision sessions for Year 10 & 11 GCSE exams in June start in February and will also be held on Mondays after school. Revision dates will also be set up for a revision morning in April and May holidays.
GCSE Coursework catch up for Years 10 & 11 between September and December and GCSE Revision for Year 11 from January to June, both after school on Mondays. The History Department offers assistance to those Year 10’s who need it with coursework. From January onwards revision for the GCSE History exam is offered. A two hour exam blitz is also offered after school the day before each exam.
DiDA/CiDA workshops with Mr Gallagher on Mondays after school. Catch-up and support sessions for Year 10 and 11. This will benefit DiDA/CiDA students who feel they are falling behind with coursework, or just want some one-to-one help.
Every Wednesday after school Mrs Fry will be running a Year 7 girls Computers 4 Girls Club. Y7 girls are invited to join her to take part in a variety of activities including fashion, music, pop, radio, TV and film stars. Come along and join the fun.
Chill out club with Mr Hutchinson, fancy chilling out after a hard day in lessons, then this is the club for you. Mondays is for Year 7, Tuesday is for Year 8, and Year 9, Wednesday for Year 10 and Thursday for Year 11. In years 10 and 11 if you just need somewhere to complete your coursework in a relaxed environment then this is the place for you.
Do your parents or adult friends want to improve their literacy skills? Would they benefit from more confidence in literacy? Then ask them to go along to Mrs Brougham and Mrs Mellor on Wednesdays after school. Units of Sound/DILP/Study Skills – personalised programmes for anybody wanting to improve literacy/study skills.
Units of Sound and Homework Club will be running on a Monday, Tuesday,Wednesday and Thursday. Mrs Mellor and Mrs Tipping will be available after school running an excellent programme for raising achievement in reading and spelling. They will also be offering their support for completing homework.
Learn about the world of finance and play the stock market with Mrs Valentine on a Friday after school between November and February. Open to Years 10 and Year 11. If you are a Aimhigher pupil in Year 9 you might also find the after school activity rewarding.

After school revision sessions for year 10 maths module 1 and statistics exams with Mr Hankinson on Wednesdays. Also extra help with statistics controlled coursework.
Mr Winder will be running revision classes on Wednesdays for Year 10 and Year 11. See Mr Winder for the dates and units that will be covered.
Want to become a radio amateur? Come along to Dr Jones’ Amateur radio Club and find out about this fascinating hobby. Learn to tune radios, intercept messages from around the world, talk to people from other countries and even learn Morse code. All this happens on a Monday or Wednesday after school.
If you are in Year 10 and Year 11 and thrive on exciting challenges then look no further. Mr Dawson is running the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme on a Tuesday after school, be aware this will involve some weekends. You are most likely already doing something which counts towards one of the sections. (Physical, Skills and Volunteering) and you will learn about outdoor skills before undertaking an expedition too. This looks great on a CV and will give you an advantage over others when applying for jobs or colleges. Check it out on www.DofE.org for more details.
Are you in Year 7 and need a quiet place to concentrate on your homework then come along to Mrs Crayton. She will be in the conference room on a Thursday after school to help with this.
Lunchtime Chill out Club will be running on a Wednesday Lunchtime with Mrs Fletcher and Miss Lyons. Bring music of your choice and relax, talking to friends and sharing your enjoyment of music. Mrs Fletcher and Miss Lyons will also bring their favourite tunes to share with you. You will find them in RE2.
Fancy cycling with Mr Harrison, meet up after school on a Tuesday. This is a fun energetic activity to relieve all the tension you have built up during the day.
Beginners Spanish for all year groups on Mondays from September to November with Mr Smith. Learn a little Spanish by following the award-winning BBC on-line course ‘La Vida Loca’.
A beginners conversation class in German for all with Mr Baxter and Mr Taylor on Wednesdays after school. Learn how to hold simple conversations to use on holiday. This could possibly lead to a qualification if appropriate or lead on to further study.
A fun Italian course for beginners. Come along and learn basic phrases in Italian, taste Italian food, watch Italian films and listen to Italian music. Join Mrs Simoni on a Wednesday after school on a blue week.
Interested in Dance, Drama and Music then Performing Arts clubs are for you! Activities include School Shows, Rock School, Choir Ensemble, Woodwind Group, Drama Skills, Dance technique and Dance Choreography. All Year groups can take part and join in the fun. Look for the separate Performing Arts booklet with dates and times for each activity.

Revision / catch up / problem solving sessions in Science with Mr Adams on Tuesday before school at 8a.m. for Years 9-11. Problem solving with aspects of science, revision techniques and general help with science.
If you need support with your Applied Science coursework or you want to prepare for the exam, help is available at the Applied Science Workshop: with Mrs Eades on Mondays after school.
Coursework catch-up sessions for Year 10 and Year 11 studying Double Applied Science with Mr Qadri after school on Mondays. Exam preparation will also be covered.
Lower School pupils are invited to join Mr Thornton on Monday after school for Science Club.
